Need

All of life is born to need,

Mighty Redwood, lowly weed.

Even stars from matter feed,

Burning bright to heaven lead.

All who live are born to need,

Sun to warm, air to breathe.

Even life from death doth feed,

Springing forth from dark earth’s seed.

All who hope are born to need,

Needing truth, needing freed.

Needing faith and charity,

Needing God to love and plead.

Even God was born to need,

Mother, Father God decreed.

Little baby born to heed,

Born to sacrifice, to bleed.

You and I are born to need,

Wants will ebb, wants recede.

Need will always mark our way,

Life has need, both night and day.

Only one has sought to say,

I will rise above the way.

You will never stand in need,

I will take it all with greed.

If you wish your way to make,

Need the Savior’s plan today.

You will need the choice to take,

You will need to choose the way.

Come to see  ye ladened ones,

Ye who labor, burdened sons.

Born this day in Bethlehem,

God with us, all need will stem.

Let your hunger and your thirst,

be for righteousness at first.

All your needs are paid by Him,

Each foot, each hand, nailed to a limb.

All will live and die to plead,

Babe in manger, knows your need.
